Pierre has captured our hearts!

So, on Friday hubs stayed home sick because of this bug that Katie picked up and gave to Doug.. some stomach type thing that I prayed I or the other kids would not get. By friday evening he was feeling a bit better and I couldn't stop thinking about this poem a friend had posted on my facebook wall. It's a poem (author unknown to me) about what a beloved pets last will and testament would be. *sniff*

A Dog's Last Will and Testament
(Author unknown)

Before humans die, they write their last Will & Testament, and give their home and all they have to those they leave behind. If, with my paws, I could do the same, this is what I'd ask....

To a poor and lonely stray I'd give:

My happy home.
My bowl, cozy bed, soft pillows and all my toys.
The lap which I loved so much.
The hand that stroked my fur and the sweet voice which spoke my name.
I'd will to the sad scared shelter dog the place I had in my human's heart, of which there seemed no bounds.

So when I die please do not say, "I will never have a pet again, for the loss and pain is more than I can stand." Instead go find an unloved dog; one whose life has held no joy or hope and give MY place to him.

This is the only thing I can give...the love I left behind.

We lost our sweet Domino Dec. 27th last year.. and I thought it was time we share our love with another sweet darling. I started looking online at Angels of Assisi and saw a few dogs that sounded like they were a match for our family. With 30 minutes to spare before they closed for they day, we were in the car and on our way there to meets these new animals.

This little guy is the first one I saw.
He was really reserved and didn't show much interest in us, but his soulful little brown eyes drew me in. He had no information listed on his cage about whether he would be good with children or other dogs and cats. He sniffed my  hand once or twice and I moved on.  I came back about 20 minutes later and looked him over again, and he was much more attentive and wagged his tail a little. I told Doug I thought he was the one... We spent 45 minutes there looking at all the animals.. there are so many!! I wish I could bring them all home but then I would be some crazy pet hoarder who animal control would arrest for having too many animals.. lol

In the end, Doug agreed with me and Pierre was coming home with us!!
He is happiest if you are holding him OR if you are rubbing his tummy. He is such a cuddlebug, and so very sweet and smart.

I believe he is a cockapoo, he's 3 years old, and today we were told he has some hip issues at such a young age, and they are not sure why.  I am going to follow up at my vet and get another wellness evaluation completed next month regarding this. Thing is, this little guy can JUMP... like really high! lol  He has opened up a lot to us in just the few short days he has been home, but I can't wait for him to really trust us and to KNOW that he is in his forever home.

Here is Pierre and Doug the first night we brought him home. Pierre is not the name we had chose, but that just means we get to work on his middle name and nickname as we all bond. :)

See you back here tomorrow friends!!
hug your furry friends!

  1. Oh sweetie the poem totally made me cry. I love it and really so true. I missed my cat so bad when I moved here and when she died I just knew she wanted me to find a new furball to love. Pierre is such a cutie and I see what you mean about his soulful eyes. I'm sure he will warm up soon and know you love him so much.
